Pokemon Gold and Silver

Pokemon GoldPokemon, Silver Version

Pokemon Gold and Silver both are great classics. They are the 2nd generation of Pokemon that uped the maximum amount of Pokemon to 251 Pokemon. The core strategy of the Pokemon games remained, but a few special features were added. Such as a in-game clock, a system of breeding Pokemon, a plethora of new moves, and a small  revamp of the special stat. 5 more legendary Pokemon were also added, Lugia and Ho-Ho are special to their respective versions, while Raikou, Entei, and Suicune are legendary Pokemon that roam the wilderness and are quite a challenge to catch. But when caught, become a great asset to the team. The breeding system is a great way to create the perfect Pokemon with perfect moves, and is another intuitive way of acquiring Pokemon.

Pokemon, Crystal Version

Pokemon Crystal however, is the improved version of Gold and Silver. It contains improved Graphics and a special battle tower that contains a Elite Four type scenario, in which you face strong Pokemon trainers in succession to eventually win great prizes that increase the power of your own Pokemon incredibely

Pokemon HeartGold VersionPokemon SoulSilver Version

However, in 2009 Gold and Silver, were recreated into HeartGold and SoulSilver, similarly to how LeafGreen and FireRed were remade. The graphics have been improved massively, and the game itself now looks beautiful. A new special feature was added in which the first Pokemon in your party of six will follow you around. Sometimes you can talk to your Pokemon to see how they are feeling, and other times your Pokemon will help you find some special hidden items. Though the Pokemon strategy and play style has remained the same, HeartGold and SoulSilver help give a breath of fresh air to the old classic Pokemon Gold and Silver versions.

Super Mario Land

Super Mario Land

Mario is another character that has lived through the decades to become a video game juggernaut. He constantly has to save the princess to advance the plot. In this game it is no different, Mario needs to save the princess from a villain named Tatanga, a "Spaceman". Like most Mario games, Mario uses his feet as his main source of attack, as jumping on enemies is tantamount to destroying them. However, he has many other tools at his disposal, for instance, turtle like Koopas can be kicked to knock down enemies in a bowling pin type fashion. He often finds special mushrooms that increase his strength, and magic flowers that allow him to shoot spheres of energy. This game has 12 interesting levels, divided into 4 different worlds as Mario fights bosses and defeats enemies trying to find Princess Daisy.

Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day!

Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day!

What makes this game stand out is that it is not for young adults, or children like Pokemon. This game is for anyone who wants to improve their memory, and mind reflexes. In a way, this is a speed puzzle game. Quick thinking is a must to increase brain power, but the puzzles themselves are not too hard to create frustration. To get some extra push for exercising your brain, multiple profiles are created so you can compete with your family members, friends, or random strangers. Massive competitions are also possible with a maximum mulitplayer amount of 16 people. Get ready to improve your mental logic, as this great brain exerciser pushes you to solve problems faster and faster. In the beginning, a few tests are done to see your 'brain age', some people may start pretty high. But, after a few weeks with this game most people are sure to become much more quick witted.

Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire

Pokemon RubyPokemon Sapphire

The third generation of the Pokemon series, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire improve the originals in many different ways. Like I wrote earlier, the Pokemon series entails capturing creatures and having them fight, in many strategic ways. However, unlike the remake these games contain many improvements. Such as having 202 different catchable Pokemon, a very beautiful environment, possible 2 verse 2 battles, and an opportunity for each Pokemon to have a special ability. Content-wise these games can offer 50+ hours of enjoyment, especially if you can bring 3 friends to have a 2 verse 2 battle royal.

Pokemon Emerald Version

One version that brings the best of both worlds is Pokemon Emerald. This version brings even more hours of enjoyment, as the Aqua and Lava antagonists of both games are included. Other extra features include even more 2 verse 2 battles, and 2 verse 2 rematches against gym leaders already defeated. Pokemon animations are much more detailed, and Emerald in general, is much more graphically refined than Sapphire and Ruby.

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

Red on top, FireRed on bottom
Pokemon FireRed is a restart of the old classic, Pokemon Red. Mostly a remake, with a bunch of much needed improvements to the original. Such as a more streamlined interface, and improved graphics. Like most Pokemon iterations, it involves capturing creatures and having those creatures fight other creatures. The creatures then get stronger and stronger, while you attempt to capture even more powerful creatures. These creatures have many different affinities and abilities. Some creatures are of the water, others of the leaf, and others of the fire, as well as many more different types of affinities. Along with these affinities are many different move sets that a Pokemon can have. Each of which also have their own personal affinity such as a firery punch, ice punch, solarbeam, or megakick. This creates the popular strategy aspect of Pokemon, as people start to battle their friends and not just the computer, they realize the need to use certain moves on certain Pokemon. Content-wise Pokemon FireRed offers about 50 hours worth of game play, and much much more if you can find some competitive friends to battle with. If you're a Pokemon veteran, FireRed can also help you find those elusive 150 first Pokemon, and reduce the hassle of aquring them with an upgraded version. Pokemon LeafGreen is actually a remake of Blue, which in its orginal Japanese release was called Green. LeafGreen and FieryRed are very similar games that have a few sprinkled differences in enemy placement, and pokemon habitats. But, all in all Pokemon LeafGreen and FireRed are remakes of the great classics, and are well worth the cheap price they currently sell for.
